PLEASE NOTE: This course is also available as an Instructor Led Online Course, CICS V4.1 Basic Tailoring (Remote Classroom) (VM814). Please note this option does not require any travel.

CICS V4.1 Basic Tailoring is a 5-day, instructor-led course designed to teach CICS system programmers the basics of how to install and tailor CICS Transaction Server (TS) for z/OS.

In this course, students learn how to tailor the system by defining transactions, programs, files, and the other resources that will be needed by CICS applications. The course also provides a thorough introduction to security and recovery concepts necessary for the administration of new or existing installations of CICS TS. Lecture topics include problem determination tools, intersystem communication, CICS DB2, Database Control (DBCTL), and IBM WebSphere MQ interfaces.

Numerous hands-on lab exercises enable students to practice their new skills using a z/OS system configured specifically for this course. Skills covered by the hands-on exercises include administering terminals, defining transactions and programs, defining files, defining recoverable resources, and using the CICS Explorer.
